Librettos Unsung

Librettos Unsung

I meant to ask you those antique names,
genetic bonds now dandelion
puffs in the rhythm of the euphony.
Too belated now, the questions will
stay unarticulated, answers
tapestry wisps floating quietly
on a wave of white-matter tiers.

Today, tomorrow, I must enjoy
the comfort of your left hand upon
my face, the solace in your gaze as
our eyes now embrace each other through
fragile days hemmed wordless, squares on
the quilt of voiceless conversation,
charades of communication that
spend my hours in lament, tied to
your umbilical, grieving the silence
of your vocal chords, librettos unsung.
