Almost the Weekend

It’s almost the weekend, and not soon enough for me.

overcast

It has been raining and extremely overcast for the past few days. We needed the rain, so I won’t complain. The sun is out, today. I walked through my garden, and my pansies are still in bloom. They should last through the end of spring, even with the below-freezing temperatures.

moon6

There was a full moon out last night…it looked lovely against the night sky, as I stood in my yard to see it.

My site seems to be working fine, now. If anyone finds a glitch, please let me know…thanks.

Some sunsets are amazing, from the colors and contrasts to the way the clouds form. The other night the sunset blazed vibrancy across the sky.

As I took photos from my garden, the clouds billowed overhead with profusions and illuminations of color. The silhouetted trees looked lovely against the colors of dusk.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything like it.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker

December 18, 2007 on 10:08 am | In General, Notes From the Garden, Photography | 6 Comments

The red-bellied woodpecker is such a lovely bird to watch. They are most common in the southeast, and love to eat out of birdfeeders where there is a special mixture of “suet” for them to eat.

There is a large splash of red from the top of its head to its back, and a slight tint of a light reddish-looking wash on its belly. It is medium to large sized, and has a wide wing span…about 17 inches at its widest.

They are pretty birds, fun to watch…and there are several families of them in my front and backyard.

Birds of a Feather-Plus One

December 3, 2007 on 12:56 am | In General, Notes From the Garden, Photography | 12 Comments

I haven’t been out and about lately, and have been mainly in the house, except for when I am walking through my gardens and yard, when I’m sitting on my deck in the backyard, or sitting on my front porch. Wherever I am in my house or outside, I am constantly taking photos.

There were quite a few doves in one of my trees a couple of days ago…sitting there resting before they moved on to another yard.

I also saw a sweet little finch sitting within one of my shrubs. I put my lens through the branches of the shrub, and the little feathered-one didn’t fly off. I was able to get a quick photograph before the sweet thing changed position and moved further inside the shrub.

Backyards, front yards, it doesn’t matter…nature’s sweetness is all around.

Flight of the Canadian Geese

November 25, 2007 on 7:47 pm | In General, Notes From the Garden, This and That | 8 Comments

While out on my deck in my backyard earlier today, I heard a strange sound, somewhat honking, somewhat loud cooing and somewhat like a person wheezing very loudly. I looked up at the sky, to where the sound was coming from. There, before my eyes, was a v-shaped flock of Canadian geese in flight.

They looked absolutely beautiful in formation, their wings spread wide, almost gliding through the air. Their long bodies were so graceful looking, and their black heads were pronounced and contrasting in color with their bodies.

I had my camera, but decided not to take any photographs, as I was thoroughly engrossed in their flight, which was quite quick, and before I knew it they were out of sight, although their sound lingered on, echoing in the air.

It was an amazing sight, and one I wouldn’t have wanted to miss, and wouldn’t have wanted to watch through the viewfinder of my camera.
