Triple Header
December 23, 2007 on 8:28 pm | In General, Notes From the Garden, Photography | 14 CommentsSome sunsets are amazing, from the colors and contrasts to the way the clouds form. The other night the sunset blazed vibrancy across the sky.
As I took photos from my garden, the clouds billowed overhead with profusions and illuminations of color. The silhouetted trees looked lovely against the colors of dusk.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything like it.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker
December 18, 2007 on 10:08 am | In General, Notes From the Garden, Photography | 6 CommentsThe red-bellied woodpecker is such a lovely bird to watch. They are most common in the southeast, and love to eat out of birdfeeders where there is a special mixture of “suet” for them to eat.
There is a large splash of red from the top of its head to its back, and a slight tint of a light reddish-looking wash on its belly. It is medium to large sized, and has a wide wing span…about 17 inches at its widest.
They are pretty birds, fun to watch…and there are several families of them in my front and backyard.

Jewish Life Photographs Catalogue
December 14, 2007 on 12:36 am | In General, Photography, Photography Exhibits, Photography Websites | 2 Comments“People of a Thousand Towns†This poignant and historical catalogue of photographs is a must see, if you are interested in photographs of pre-World War II Eastern Europe. There are 17,000 photographs spanning the late 1800s through th early 1940s, documenting Jewish Life.
All the photographs I have seen on the website have given me more insight into Eastern Europe Jewish life, and they have moved me, in many ways. The photographs are varied, and deal with all facets of Jewish life and culture, traditions, employment, celebrations, shtetl life, etc.
Take a look at “Women in Communal Towns“.
The catalogue of “People of a Thousand Towns“: The Online Catalog of Photographs of Jewish Life in Prewar Eastern Europe is compelling, and it is an incredible historical look at Jewish life before World War II.
