Flight of the Canadian Geese

November 25, 2007 on 7:47 pm | In General, Notes From the Garden, This and That |

While out on my deck in my backyard earlier today, I heard a strange sound, somewhat honking, somewhat loud cooing and somewhat like a person wheezing very loudly. I looked up at the sky, to where the sound was coming from. There, before my eyes, was a v-shaped flock of Canadian geese in flight.

They looked absolutely beautiful in formation, their wings spread wide, almost gliding through the air. Their long bodies were so graceful looking, and their black heads were pronounced and contrasting in color with their bodies.

I had my camera, but decided not to take any photographs, as I was thoroughly engrossed in their flight, which was quite quick, and before I knew it they were out of sight, although their sound lingered on, echoing in the air.

It was an amazing sight, and one I wouldn’t have wanted to miss, and wouldn’t have wanted to watch through the viewfinder of my camera.

  1. We saw some geese this weekend while in Cedarburg, WI. It was shortly after I asked Christina to marry me. :) We were just hoping that they wouldn’t poop on us as they flew overhead. They did not. We’re getting married. :)

  2. LOL, yes, I was worried about the Canadian geese pooping on me, also, Scott. LOLOL. It didn’t stop me from looking, but I was concerned while I was looking up. :)

  4. It seems each year they’re later and later and I’ve only seen one flock this year. Worries me a bit tht they keep hanging around.

I am always taken with the sight of Canada geese on their way - where ever they’re going to. They *are* engrossing and the sounds are really lovely - the talking to each other over the noise of the wind, the wings…. I wonder what they’re saying.

I am missing you. I wish we could talk in another venue. One thing I would ask you would be what, if any, word press plugins you use. I’m setting up a few accounts and have been looking at the “must haves” and am not sure I agree.

What I like about your site is the cookies…? I’m always logged in here and never have to fill out my info — nice aspect!

I had wondered if you’d seen my reference to The Book Thief . It was mesmerising and had a view I’d not thought of before although I’ve read some books along those lines. I thought it might appeal to you although I could be completely wrong.

Much love to you today and every day. Always love, peace, and kisses and hugs for you.

  6. RS…I am fascinated by them, also, captivated, enthralled, and so many other adjectives that can’t even begin to describe my emotions on looking at them.

I’ll email you re my WP plugins. I don’t agree with all of their “must haves”, myself.

Hugs, Kisses, Love and Peace..dear RS.
