Antonioni Dead at 94

July 31, 2007 on 10:50 am | In General | 4 Comments

Michelangelo Antonioni, Italian filmaker, died in his home Monday night at the age of 94.

He used the camera, often in lingering and slow movement, to emphasize his themes which enveloped issues of melancholy and separation, in haunting and intense fashion. His masterful filmmaking illuminated the quietude within our own souls.

I am saddened by his death. But, comforted by the fact that his legacy will live on through his brilliant work.

Within one day, the world has physically lost Ingmar Bergman, and Michelangelo Antonioni. May they both be at peace now, relaxing on the eternal veranda with a glass of wine.

Thank you, once again, Milena.

Ingmar Bergman, brilliant film director, died in his home, Monday…July 30th. He was 89-years old.

His films always evoked extreme, emotional content, from humor to madness and sadness, the darkness of life and the pain of existence, and he injected his own demons within his films, depicting subjects and themes that were filled with starkly defining and deeply intense elements of humanity and life.

Bergman is one of my all-time favorite directors, and I am extremely saddened by his death. His legacy to all of us will live on through his incredbile and masterful work.

May he be at peace in the eternal realm.

Thank you, Milena, for bringing this to my attention, earlier today.

Continuing Cycle

July 23, 2007 on 1:01 am | In General, Notes From the Garden, Photography | 11 Comments

The life cycle in the garden is intriguing. Each phase of it is beautiful to me, whether I see a new bud about to open itself up to the world, or whether I am looking at a flower whose petals are wrinkling or receding, and losing some of its color.

The new bud and its colorful tones illuminate against the fading tones of the flower that is passing on its lifeline to the new generation, leaving its energy behind, to the young life. Life, no matter what the form, is similar. We are born, we leave this realm and move on to another one, but our illumination and life force remains with those who carry on, in our place.
