Al Gore Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize!

February 1, 2007 on 11:53 pm | In General, WorldWide |

Former Vice-President, Al Gore, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize! His intense efforts have brought the issue of Global Warming, to the forefront, not only with his book, An Inconvenient Truth, and his film of the same name, but also with his constant U.S. and international travels, and decades of work, where he has been untiring in giving his compelling presentations at conferences and universities, etc., in order to educate the public/world of the dangers of climate change.  His forthright advocacy is the likes of which I have never seen.

I was listening to NBC News on TV, while online, and heard the announcement.  I am absolutely thrilled, and I hope he goes on to receive the Award.  The recipients will be announced in October 2007. He is already a winner in my book! It would be a shared Nobel Peace Prize with Canadian environmentalist Sheila Watt-Cloutier.

I have written about Al Gore in the past, shook his hand, and had my copies of his book signed (wow, Scott, how about this?!).  The environment, Global Warming and climate change have always been issues that I have felt were profound issues, not to be ignored.

  1. He may be utterly boring, but the man got a point, always has. It would be a good thing for mother earth if he gets awarded the Nobel prize.

  2. Yes, he has had a valid point for decades, and was laughed at, and now, unfortunately for the planet, the environmental issues are difficult to ignore.

Yes, it would be a good thing, imo.

  3. Yes, it is undeniable that the climate has definitely changed, everywhere … the next few years will decide if this planet remains livable or not.

  4. I know, it is a an uncomfortable thought, to think about the future generations, and the plight of the planet.

  5. Outstanding. I find it interesting to see/hear so many scoffers to global warming when things are changing all around us. I’ve seen evidence first hand in my work overseas and certainly to a smaller extent here in the US.

  6. Yes, I thought it was outstanding, too, HP.

Yes, the scoffers, amazing, and I often wonder what planet they live on, when there is so much evidence.

It should be a major concern for all of us, if not for ourselves, but future generations.

    Thanks for coming by.

  7. I’m very glad global warming is on the forefront. I was watching Discovery Science…because they were trying to figure out one of the mass extinctions…that apparently happened over THOUSANDS of years…the global temperature over that period of time changed 10 degrees.

I recently read they’re figuring the global warming over the next 100 years to change between 2 to 10 degrees. The same temperature change to cause global extinction over thousands of years happening in only 100 years. Scary.

  8. I am glad, it is on the forefront, also, Sterl. It is a serious issue, and one not to be ignored.

Yes, I saw that on the Discovery Channel, also, and it was quite alarming.

Two degrees might not sound like much, but in reality, it is drastic.
