Backroads and Countryside

I love the backroads of Tennessee, each one bringing beautiful glimpses of nature and lifestyle.

There is a backroad, one mile from my home, that I love walking through, each minute, hour, and day of each season, the same spot takes on a different look, and emotion.

One Mile From Home

Travelling down a backroad (instead of the interstate) on my way home from Nashville, TN, can be a wonderful treat, as the hillsides bring the eyes visuals that define surprise, serenity, calm, beauty, and joy.

Hillsides on a backroad…taken from a car window while a passenger in a car…with a 200mm zoom lens…look how tiny the barn looks!! This setting reminded me of a scene from a fairy tale.
The countryside of Tennessee is incredible…from season to season…the vibrant colors jump out at you, bringing smiles to your face.

Backroad of Autumn

A Country Backroad in Tennessee…I decided to travel this road on my way home from Nashville…and am glad I did.

Autumn’s End

Autumn is my favorite season…where colors flourish and thrive…but… also…where colors fade…fall from trees…and blow away into the river of winter’s beginning.

Trestle Bridge Over the Caney Fork River

One day the trees explode with autumn vibrancy…and…almost over night…the branches begin to show their bare beauty.

Bare Beauty

River Dance

As bare branches reverberate their song, the naked silence resounds into an aria…of another season’s ending…and the beginning of a new season. Take time to inhale the stark beauty.

Autumn Road

Taking a drive on a rural or country autumn road, can be rewarding in more ways than one. The view of autumn tones on the road in front of you can be overwhelming, in its beauty.

The autumn road can also make you crave for more beauty, and wonder what is beyond the bend.

What beauty lies on the left, on the right, in back, and in front of us. Open your eyes, and let your mind wander through the moments of the season, no matter where you live, no matter what the season is, open your eyes, inhale the beauty.

Colors and Textures

Here are some photos that include varied textures and tones.

Life Lines

I liked the way this flower macro reminded me of veins, life lines of the body, carrying the breath, and the flow of life within us.

Flower Power

This is a small flower, but mighty in its colorful power.

Entwining

The texture blends in this is what attracted my eye, and also the fact that the vine, now old and twisted, is still full of life and strength, still beautiful without its embellishments, barren, but empowered and beautiful. It also reminded me of bodies entwining.

It isn’t All About Black and White

Illuminated

Black and White photography is not only about tone, it isn’t all about “black and white”. Some settings look better in black and white tones, enhancing nature, mood, character, emotion, or a concept.

Healing

Statues often evoke a strong visual in black and white tones, with the light and contrasts specifically highlighting sections of the statue to bring out an effect or an emotional, with backlighting used to bring out the intensity of the mood.

Towards

Darker tones are often used to create shadows, and light, light that seems to illuminate, that adds mystery or intrigue to a composition, leaving us to feel as if we are moving or walking towards a light-force beyond our vision. At times, we are left to wonder what is beyond, what life-force is there, that we can’t see, what journey lies ahead of us, in our travels through life.

The Staircase

Photographs of interior architecture, especially staircases, stairways, steps, etc., composed in black and white tones, can hold their own sense mystery, as they lead our eyes upward, trying to unearth the mystery beyond them. Stairways are symbolic of life journeys, and life discoveries.

Light and dark, textures and tones, moods and moments, emotion and symbolism, it isn’t all about black and white.
